CHILD/ADOLESCENT ASSESSMENTS1


Psychodiagnostic (also called 'psychological', 'personality', or 'mental health' assessments) - the goal of these assessments is to assess mental health functioning and often to provide a diagnosis. These assessments typically begin with an in depth interview with the child's parent(s) and the child (depending on age), to gain information about the developmental history of the child. Several hours of testing with the child is required. At time, parent(s) and/or teachers are asked to complete assessment measures designed to gain information about how they view the child. A typical assessment would involve 1/2 day with the client and parents(s) (3-4 hours). The total time involved in completing the assessment would be approximately 8-11 hours depending on complexity ($1360-$1870). A report is provided.

Psychoeducational (also called 'learning disability' assessments) - purpose is to assess student's learning abilities, diagnose potential learning disabilities, and to make recommendations regarding how to best support the student's learning, The assessment begins with an in depth interview with the student's parent(s) and the student (depending on age) to gain information about the student's developmental and learning history. Parent(s) are asked to provide past report cards and/or assessments for the psychologist to review. Actual time spend with the student completing testing varies. A narrow assessment requires approximately 3 hours of testing (i.e., cognitive and achievement skills assessed) while a broad assessment could involve 4-5 hours of testing (cognitive, achievement, memory, executive functioning skill are assessed).Testing can be completed in one day or two half days depending on preference. Broad psychoeducational assessments can include interviews with the student's teachers to gain additional information and feedback meetings with school staff to discuss assessment results and recommendations. A report summarizing assessment results and recommendations is always provided. A typical assessment involves 12 hours ($2040). The Psychologist will advise you after initial parent interview whether 12 hours should be sufficient, or whether additional testing might be required (potentially increasing the cost).

 ADHD - purpose is to determine whether someone ADHD. Time with the client varies depending on whether it is narrow focus (i.e., ADHD diagnosis) or broad focus (ADHD versus other possible learning/cognitive issues). The narrow version usually involves 1/2 day with client and parent(s). Again, the assessment begins with an interview with the parent(s) and the child depending on age to gain information about the child's developmental history. Parents are asked to provide past report cards and/or assessments for the psychologist to review. The broad version involves significantly more testing with the child, interviews with the child's teacher, and/or classroom observations of the child. At times, parent(s) and/or teachers are asked to complete assessment measures designed to gain information about how they view the child. The narrow version usually takes around 8 hours whereas the broad version is similar to psychoeducational assessment above and can take approximately 12 hours ($1360 for the narrow version; $2040 for broad). A report is provided.

Autism Spectrum Disorder - purpose is to determine whether someone has an autism spectrum or related disorder. For these assessments a significant amount of time is spend with parents to gain information regarding the client's developmental history and current skills, In addition, parent(s) will be asked to complete assessment measure designed to gain information about how they view the child. Time with the client varies depending on level of functioning but child will complete a number of assessment measures including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS 2). Parents are asked to provide report cards and/or past assessments for the psychologist to review. Sometimes the assessment will include interviews with the client, the client's teacher, and/or observations of the child. The narrow version typically requires approximately 14 hours ($2380) to complete. A report is provided.


Cancellation Policy - 5 business days' notice is required for cancellation of assessments otherwise a fee equal to half the quoted rate will be applied.
